Minnesota Veteran Suicide Prevention Collaborative

The Minnesota Veteran Suicide Prevention Collaborative is an initiative to prevent suicide among military service members, veterans and families. This program includes mental health awareness, suicide prevention, military culture, safety planning, barriers to care, lethal means counseling, which will enable healthcare professionals to proactively treat veterans in need of mental health treatment.

Learning Objectives: After completing this activity, learners will be able to:

Describe key aspects of military and Veteran culture, including common values, unique experiences, challenges, and mental health stigma, to enhance empathy and communication in care and support settings
Recognize the risk factors, misconceptions, and intervention strategies related to suicide and mental health in military and Veteran populations.
Identify and address mental health risks, including suicide and substance use, within the military community.
